June 8, 1998 The Knight Family headed out West on June 8, 1998 for a week of Dad's work followed by a long weekend side trip to Grand Teton National Park and then on to Yellowstone for four days. On the return trip to Columbia, we stopped by Steamboat Springs to visit with our Cousin, H.C. Pace. We had a wonderful trip and delightful time with H.C. and Sharon in their mountain-top home overlooking the United States Olympic Skiing Team practice runs. 35th Wedding Anniversary Mother and Dad celebrated their 35th Wedding Anniversary by a wonderful trip to the North Georgia mountains and a delightful stay in a remote, mountaintop cabin in the Chattahoochee National Forest near Blairsville, Georgia. Mother especially enjoyed the shopping in the lovely German town of Helen, which is only twelve miles from the cabin. Dad gave Mother a beautiful necklace and earrings as an anniversary present. The view from the cabin is simply breathtaking [see top photo at left] and the serenity of the surrounding mountains made for a great time together and an unforgettable trip. They took a side trip to "The Carpet Capital of the World," Dalton, Georgia. They were amazed to see all the carpet mills and outlets and learn that almost 90 percent of the carpet manufactured in the United States is produced within a 30 mile radius of Dalton. The selection of carpet and tile was almost overwhelming, but after some hard work and many stops in shops, they were able to narrow the selection down to a couple of choices. May 31 - June 9, 2004 On Memorial Day, 2004, Dad, Mom, Trish Anne, Trish Anne's friend, Ben and our Cousin, David, set out on a ten day trip to see the sights and do some tent camping in the Hawaiian Islands. We had a wonderful time camping right out on the beaches, snorkeling, and sightseeing on the islands of Oahu and Maui. We spent five days on Oahu island, swimming at Waikiki Beach and touring the island by car. Then we flew over to the island of Maui to take the "Road To Hanna" stopping along the way to see the beautiful waterfalls and black beach near the state campground just outside of Hanna. The pictures to the left were taken on the beach in front of the Grand Wailea Resort. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
