Boy, did we ever have a big surprise this Valentine's Day 2004!  The day started off like any other "special" day ......... Well, let's back up to the beginning of our big weekend.

We got a call from Charlie and April that they were coming to Columbia to meet Quentin who was riding to Columbia from Fork Union with a friend and his Dad.  Seems Quentin's unit had excelled [again] and merited a weekend off.  Charlie and April were going to meet him here in Columbia and they were going to North Myrtle Beach for the weekend.  Quentin had a football interview with the coach and staff at Coastal Carolina University the next day.  "What about Mom riding down with you - HEY! What's say we both ride down with you?" was Dad's response.  "GREAT!" said April, "that will work out just fine" [Hee Hee].

Charlie and April had bought Grandmother red roses, and on Valentine's Day, Dad got Mom a dozen also.  We all met in the afternoon to eat some seafood before heading back to Columbia.  Dad wanted to go to "The Hut" at Little River.  Well, in addition to having to sit at separate tables, the waitress supposedly told Grandmother that they did not serve broiled seafood --- "OK!! LET'S LEAVE AND GO TO HORRY'S", said April.

We packed up and drove over to "Horry's Restaurant" on Highway 9.  As we got out of our cars, April asked Dad to bring the camera along [Hee Hee].  Never one to want to miss a good family photo event, Dad dutifully agreed and grabbed the video camera on the way out of the car.

They put us in a side room where we could all sit at one table.   Quentin kept taking videos of everybody [and himself].  Even though he was sitting right next to Mom, nobody paid any attention to what Quentin was saying on the video.  Lightning flashing

The food was served and the conversation was going well.  * Then suddenly, lightning struck! * Quentin whispered on camera, "Here comes the big announcement!"  Right on cue, Charlie calmly announced, "April and I want you all to know that we are expecting our

first child in August."

Lightning flashing

Wow .... and we do mean WOW!!  The lightning scored a direct hit on MOM!

"WHAT!  WHAT! Listen now, don't you joke with us !", exclaimed Mom.

"A BABY! A BABY!"  She was definitely in SHOCK!  "Wha ... Wha... What do you think of that, Henry?  You're going to be a Granddaddy and I'm going to be a Grandmother!  I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!  WOW!"

As she turned to Dad, she saw that he was already standing and addressing the folks in the restaurant, "EXCUSE ME!! ATTENTION EVERYBODY!! Our son-in-law just told us that our daughter is expecting our first grandchild!"

Lightning flashing

Well, not only was the whole family in shock, now EVERYBODY in the restaurant was in shock! [Couldn't figure out if it was the news of the impending arrival or the fact that Dad had just abruptly interrupted everybody's meal with the startling news].

At any rate, the whole place broke out into a rousing applause and Dad sat back down.  Congratulations were in order and the conversation turned to WHAT, WHEN, etc...

This is one Valentine's Day we will never forget:

Dad, Mom & Trish,

Isn't she the cutest baby in the world? In this picture you can see her smiling away. She has her little arm up by the side of her face and she's resting her head against it. In other pictures you can see a side profile of her face (she has a cute little button nose and heart shaped lips) and you can see her legs and feet. It's the most amazing thing! I can't wait to show you the video. We're just sending these pictures to you today. When we get back, we'll pull some more detailed shots off the DVD and send them out to everyone else.

It was hard to actually get a still shot of her! She was moving around the whole time and wouldn't be still for a minute. She smiled a lot, moved her head back to stretch her neck out, rubbed her eyes and mouth, opened her eyes for a second or two and actually had her feet all the way up next to her face! She's quite the little acrobat! She got that from Charlie, I'm not flexible at all.

Love you!

April
